Open invitation to those who have taken the
initiative to stand up and lead to join the Heirs of Liberty Committee
of Correspondence: Around 1772, the Son's of Liberty formed the first formal Committee of Correspondence. This first known Committee of Correspondence was formed in Boston by Sam Adams. A Committee of Correspondence was soon thereafter established in Virginia by Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry. Committees of Correspondence began to spring up across the thirteen colonies; often organized by the leaders in the various colonies. These committees were formed throughout the colonies as a means of coordinating protest against the tyranny of Great Britain. By 1774 the Boston Committee of Correspondence was coordinating with three hundred other committees spread throughout the colonies. The Son's of Liberty Committee of Correspondence enabled inter-colony unity and soon proved to be the most revolutionary machine ever created in the Western Hemisphere. These committees communicated with each other by hand-written letters carried aboard ships and couriers on horseback. Flash forward 237 years. Once again, many Americans believe their natural liberties are threatened by a distant group of elite rulers. The distance now is not geographic separation by a vast ocean but by an ocean of disconnect between politicians and many of the American people. Politicians demonstrate a stunning disdain for our founding principles of freedom, openly dismiss the Constitution as a quaint and archaic document of no modern relevance and arrogantly dismiss the grave concerns of the American people. Grassroots organizations are popping up across the country. Yet, there seems to be no real coordination among the 100s of disparate efforts. There are groups and sites attempting and desiring to be "the" umbrella group for all. We do not intend to compete with these good efforts. We would like, however, to propose a unique and historically proven approach to all of the "doers" throughout our great nation: Heir's of Liberty and Committee for Correspondence. The notion is to be a modern day, peaceful, Son's of Liberty and to form a Committee of Correspondence among the leaders of the various patriotic groups and activities. The purpose is not to command nor control but rather to simply facilitate communication and coordination among those who take the initiative to stand up and lead. If you are a leader of one of the many grassroots efforts to help restore our liberty and Constitutional Republic, we invite you to join Heirs of Liberty. If you are interested, please send an email to united@heirsofliberty.org. Please be sure to include the following: Your name The name and website of your organization Your position within the organization A brief statement of the purpose of your organization A brief statement that you and your organization advocate our natural and Constitutional rights |
